Hi, I’m Amber.
My lifelong goal is to always be in pursuit of making the world a better place.
I’m a big believer in the power of words. Whether I’m writing a hard-hitting news story, contributing to investigations that incite change, or working with clients to write content that helps expand their business, that goal stays front of mind.
When I’m not writing, I can be found in the classroom at Mount Royal University in Calgary, instructing students in journalism, communications and general education. My interest in studying the practice of journalism led me to complete my Master of Journalism at Carleton University in Ottawa. Here, I wrote my thesis, The Role of Legacy Media: An Examination of Coverage During the Coastal GasLink Conflict. The thesis examines how national news outlets portrayed Indigenous communities during TC Energy’s project development and the subsequent railway blockades.
During my time at Carleton, I worked in newsrooms alongside long form, investigative teams like the Institute of Investigative Journalism and CBC’s The Fifth Estate, where I contributed to projects on online data surveillance, non-profit corruption and government mismanagement during environmental disasters.
In my free time, I can be found skiing, hiking, training for my next 10 kilometre race or crocheting at a skill level well beyond my years.
Do I sound like someone you’d like to work with? Please drop me a line.
